Job Purpose
The Control Room Operator (CRO) is responsible for monitoring the status of all plant systems on a continuous basis. Responds to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and executes machine shut-down and start-up procedures as required. Assures that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating in a safe and efficient manner.
Main Tasks and Accountabilities
- Work under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the Lead Operator, or other operational authority.
- Operate, start, and shut down all equipment in the areas assigned, including but not limited to, turbine-generators, pumps, and related auxiliary equipment.
- Operate DCS control console to coordinate and regulate process variables and to direct flow rates of various processes.
- Check and evaluate all alarms sounded and displays on the HMI monitor and promptly inform the Shift Supervisor and the BOP shift technician of the abnormality or carry out emergency shutdown of the machine.
- DCI Read processing schedules, operating logs test result samples and laboratory recommendations to determine changes in equipment controls required to specify quantity and quality of the product.
- Perform on hourly and daily basis all the operational records and be able to identify and to have fast and safe response on any warning or alarm from Power Plant internal systems.
- Read results of testing and chemical preparations and additions to maintain water quality control.
- Set controls to adjust process variables, such as flows, temperature and pressure.
- Observe and record readings of indicating and recording instruments. Maintain operational reporting logs and perform other necessary and related clerical work.
- Operate auxiliary equipment from the Control Room.
- Assist Shift Supervisor or other operators in the Control Room with processes including shutdown and start up (normal and emergency).
- Perform basic calculations for determining the process parameters and materials balances.
- Responsible for preparation such as plant isolation for day to day maintenance work.
- Work directly with technical experts on the transfer of technical advice during the initial period of operations or start-up of regeneration operating processes.

- Maintain accurate operations log book.
- Maintain physical and jumper logs.
- Direct other employees in the operating areas and train other operators.
- Maintain high standards of safety and housekeeping.
- Communicate with other operational personnel as required for safe and effective plant operation.
- Apply knowledge of simple/combine cycle plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision-making and work tasks
- Work without supervision inspection while carrying out duties
- Knowledge of and ability to operate various switches and the effect it has on operation.
- Direct other employees in the same area and train advance skills, troubleshooting to other operators.
- Undertake similar or related work as directed by management
- Complete and comply with all OSHA, Environmental, Emergency Response, OQ skills and company assigned training.
- Commitment to safe operations should actively participate in safety meetings and develop knowledge in all company safety policies and industry safety standards.
- Broad domain the Log-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) System is in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures.
Working Environment
• Works in the control room for 80% and 20% of the time on walk rounds checking the smooth and efficient running of the plant by observing and recording gauges.
• Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, high noise areas, dusty areas and high elevations
• Work in all temperatures and climate conditions. Some temperatures can be extreme
• Work in confined spaces, some requiring the use of respirator protective equipment
• Performance of duties requires working rotating shifts and response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week
• Emergency situations will require the use of respirator and climbing of stairs to reach safety shelters
• Established facial hair in the sealing are of a respirator is not permitted
• At management’s discretion, may be assigned to maintain qualifications and skills necessary to serve on the Safety Response Team.

Work Experience |
A degree in electrical/Mechanical/I&C engineering with at least 3 years’ experience. Broad domain to plant and Gas Turbine combined cycle operation. |
