Title: DCS Operator Gasoline
Responsible for control room panel operation through Distributed Control System of assigned Refinery Gasoline unit during normal operation, start-up, shutdown and emergency situations.
Operates and manage process parameters of number of units at the same time. Takes fast and accurate actions to keep the units under optimum conditions minimizing wastage of hydrocarbon through slopping and flaring.
Act as a central contact point and all communications to the outside Operations are made through him.
Act in emergency role as required such as leak or fire whereby information flow is coordinated by him through the radio.
Safety
Ensure all risks are minimized and that safe working is in progress.
Passes information to the outside operators about emergency situation or the abnormalities in other units or section.
Ensures that the respective outside operators are alert to tackle or help the adjacent units in case of emergency.
Respond to emergency situations and initiate first response corrective action until arrival of Shift Supervisor and advise him accordingly.
Main Tasks
Operates computerized Distributed Control System in Control Room Building.
Monitor assigned units to control and monitor operating parameters of operating facilities units under the assigned area.
Acts as the main link between the field operations and the control room operations.
Establish communication through radio telephones with Operations and maintenance staff on the plant.
Maintain the plant at optimum through put as instructed ensuring unit safety.
Takes over shift from outgoing shift Panel Operator with details of any operational irregularities or changes made during previous Shift, and hand over shift in an orderly and efficient manner to incoming Shift Panel Operator.
Carry out Routine Tasks such as:
Controls process start-up, shutdown and emergency situation.
Take corrective actions to normalize alarms and adjust process parameters to keep the unit
streamlined.
Deal with process upsets in his assigned area by communicating with Shift Supervisor and Unit manager.
Instruct the Outside Operator to adjust the equipment, manual valves and changeover of equipment as per the process demand and work schedule.
Log critical readings of the main process parameters like pressure, temperature
and flow. Deviations from the normal readings are brought to the attention of
senior panel operator.
Implement the instructions from shift supervisor. Refer problems back. End results are logged.
Handle "Emergency Situations" referring immediately to Shift Supervisor and Section Manager.
Take appropriate and prompt action on Shift Supervisor instructions to save the refinery assets and ensure on spec-production at all times.
Monitoring of Alarms and Trips.
Checks alarm summary on continuous basis and reports abnormalities to senior.
Optimize Process Parameters.
Monitors process parameters and Advance Process Control graphics on continuous basis.
Make accurate changes to the process parameters if any measured or control variables are hindering the unit optimisation.
Keeps a track of all the permits issued in his assigned areas and update of the maintenance jobs are passed to the shift supervisor. Take actions to handover closed control loops to loops.
Familiar with the unit technology descriptions and examined for handling the technical assets of the units.
Keep their workplace clean and clean it if it is needed or ordered.
Follow their line manager or manager or director orders.

Undertakes similar or related work as directed by senior management.
Works in the control room for 80% of time, may spend limited time outside resolving issues.
